Songs: Cruel Cruel Moon by Paul & Storm (With a Machinima by Mike Spiff Booth)

Today, I have yet another song with a werewolf theme. This time, however, the song is a lot more light-hearted and witty. Cruel, Cruel Moon, written by Paul & Storm, was an entry in Quick Stop Entertainment’s 2008 Masters of Song-Fu #2 songwriting contest. The challenge was to write a song about the moon, but only Paul & Storm’s song took up the subject of werewolves. The machinima (the video) from World of Warcraft, on the other hand, was made to go with the song as an entry in the machinima contest at Blizzcon 2009, where it took second place. It features the original, pre-Cataclysm Worgen model. The tune of the song is catchy and the words full of wit, so I hope you will enjoy listening to it as much as I have over the years!

Cruel, cruel moon
Please don’t come out tonight
‘Cause when you do
My Emily Lou
And me are gonna have a fight

They say the full moon’s meant for lovers
But you’re gonna break my heart
‘Cause when you shine
That baby of mine
Will turn into a werewolf
And rip out my throat and kill me

Four weeks ago me and Emily Lou
We were on a Northern England tour
Late one night, against advice
We went a’ walkin’ on the moors
She thought she saw a doggy
Underneath the full moon’s light
But when she tried to pet that doggy
It gave her a nasty bite

Didn’t think too much about it
‘Till this morning when I read
There was some kind of monster out last night
And eighteen folks were dead
My baby slept there next to me
With blood caked in her claws
Tattered clothing, guts and entrails
Clenched between her jaws

Cruel, cruel moon
Please don’t come out tonight
‘Cause when you do
My Emily Lou
And me are gonna have a fight
They say the full moon’s meant for lovers
But you’re gonna break my heart
‘Cause when you shine
That baby of mine will
Turn on me and rip my lungs out
And julienne my liver

Every time you think you know someone
That’s when they change again
So Mr. Moon, can you help me out
Of this doggone fix I’m in?
I locked my baby in the basement

And reinforced the door
But when she’s done lycanthropizing
She’s gonna settle up the score

My finger’s on the trigger
Of this gun full of silver bullets
But Mr. Moon, I love my Emily Lou
Too much to pull it
My daylight’s runnin’ out soon
And this door won’t hold for long
One last chance now, Mr. Moon
Won’t you listen to my song?

Cruel, cruel moon
Please don’t come out tonight
‘Cause when you do
My Emily Lou
And me are gonna have a fight
They say the full moon’s meant for lovers
But you’re gonna break my heart
‘Cause when you shine
That baby of mine
Will painfully transform
Just like that guy from “An American Werewolf in London”
Then she’ll tear my eyeballs from their sockets
Then I won’t see my baby anymore

In the meantime, I’m in the final stages of wrapping up my next Werewolf Movie Review. It should be up by the nearest full-moon, which is to say Monday (ah, just like in the old times!). And, just as a reminder since I’ve already posted about this on my Google+ profile, if you don’t have to wake up very early on Monday morning and the night isn’t cloudy, I encourage you to observe the Super Blood Moon – the moon at its perigee will enter a full lunar eclipse. These two phenomena coinciding with each other is a rare occurrence (the next time we’ll be able to view them together will be in 2033), so don’t miss out! There will even be transmissions from the eclipse on the Internet, so if it’s cloudy, you still will have a chance to see something, even if not directly through your binoculars. For more info, just type ‘supermoon eclipse 2015’ into your search engine or visit my Google+ profile and follow the link in there.

Until next time!
